The servers under every plan are monitored around the clock; that is included. The Monitoring add-on watches your site specifically, because a broken plugin, an expired certificate or a bad deploy can take a site down while the server underneath is perfectly healthy.
What is checked
Every monitored address is requested every 60 seconds from our own Australian infrastructure, so the numbers reflect what your visitors experience rather than a probe on another continent. Each check records whether the site answered, the status code and the response time. Once a day the SSL certificate is inspected as well; see SSL expiry warnings.
Which sites
When the add-on is switched on, a monitor is created for every domain attached to the plan at that moment. They are listed under Your sites on the Monitoring page. If you attach a domain later and want it watched, say so in a ticket.
When something fails
One failed check is a datum, not an incident: a single blip from one vantage point should not wake anyone. After three consecutive failures an incident opens and you get an email naming the site and the error. When a check succeeds again the incident closes and a second email confirms the recovery, with the outage length.
Reading the page
Open the plan under Hosting and click Monitoring.
- Your sites shows each monitor's state, last check, last status code and response time, and the certificate's expiry date.
- Recent incidents lists outages with start, end, duration and cause.
Switching it off
Turning the add-on off stops the checks at the end of the billing period. History is kept, so switching it back on later resumes where it left off.
